About Polina :

What course are you studying and what level?

BM BCh Medicine

Why did you chose that course?

I love how Medicine brings science to a people level. The content affects each of us, but differently in each personal story. It’s an exciting, quickly progressing field with so many opportunities for development both in clinical work and research.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

Took it up at school, in Kingston Upon Thames. Love the water, and the feeling of freedom on it.

What was your first rowing club and coach?

Tiffin Rowing club, Alex Di Luzio

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

My parents (volleyball and handball players); my grandfathers (National champion for wrestling, and football)

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

Highlight of my University experience for sure. The people that come into your life, the discipline, the cold Tideway water in January. Puts your mind in perspective what is tough and when to hold back when you feel like complaining.

If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?

Any if I set my mind to it.

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Shelley
