About Katy:
What course are you studying and what level?
Medicine MB BChir – 6th year
Why did you chose that course?
I wanted a career focused on helping people that was highly pressured and constantly changing.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
Christ’s College Boat Club, October 2019. My friends were going to a freshers BBQ and I thought I would go along as well! Free food and a chance to try the iconic Oxbridge sport. I like how it’s a mix of being strong and aerobic, and how it can be team focused.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
Christ’s College Boat Club, Cambridge. Kate Hurst
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
Jessica Ennis – incredible female athlete, nations favourite etc
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
Lifelong friends and incredible teammates, improved time management and discipline, a faster 5K, and a love/hate relationship with seat racing house (1500m marker at Ely)
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
I like to think I’m okay at triathlon (as long as I survive the swim segment)
What is your favourite non-academic book?
Norwegian Wood by Murakami OR the Inheritance Cycle (book series) by Paolini (please don’t make me choose)
