About Verity:

What course are you studying and what level?

Medicine MBChB

Why did you chose that course?

I couldn’t see myself ever having a desk job, or having a career which wasn’t people centred. Given I enjoyed the academics in school, medicine seemed like the right fit for me.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

I started to learn how to cox during my second year of university at my college, St Edmund Hall, primarily due to the fact that I was living in a house full of rowers. I was the shortest in the house by a mile and so the obvious seat for me was the coxing seat…

What was your first rowing club and coach?

SEHBC, Euan Dickerson

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

Bryony Page – she is an incredible gymnast and was rising through the ranks and winning world championships as I was getting more serious about trampolining so she was a key role model for me.

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

It has shaped the past year of my life completely. It has given me a structure and a new community of incredibly strong and resiliant women who inspire me everyday.
