About charlotte:

What course are you studying and what level?

MEng in Materials Science (integrated masters)

Why did you chose that course?

I didn’t want to do pure chemistry or physics, and materials science combined all my favourite elements of science.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

I started rowing at university, having learnt at my college (Queen’s), rowing at Queen’s is free and this allowed me to learn during my 3 years of undergrad. I had always wanted to try rowing but never had the opportunity before, and as soon as I gave it a go I was hooked! I also took part in the development squad last summer, and really enjoyed it so decided to trial this year. I love that the more you put in the more you get out. It is such an amazing team sport that feels like flying through the water.

What was your first rowing club and coach?

The Queen’s College, Oxford. Pippa Biggs

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

Jessica Ennis-Hill, watching the 2012 olympics I saw her do what seemed lie the impossible and she inspired me as she showed women can do amazing things.

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

it has given me a drive to do as much as possible as well as possible, and hold myself to the highest standards in all parts of life

If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?

cycling

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Harry Potter
