Led by team manager and Boat Race Umpire Matthew Holland, a delegation of Oxford and Cambridge athletes travelled to the beautiful city of Split, Croatia to race in the 21st Regatta Sveti Duje between the 12th and 14th May 2023.
Saturday was the main day of racing with student crews, including Imperial College who also made the journey from the UK, racing side by side over the 1000m course.
A matter of weeks following the dramatic scenes of the Gemini Boat Race 2023 it was Oxford this time who came out triumphant winning both the Men’s and Women’s events, making clear their intentions for the 2024 sesason!
As you might be expect at a student regatta, the Saturday night was a lighthouse party and prizegiving ceremony. We won’t speculate about how the athletes will have approached the Croatian hospitality given the fact they were racing the following day but when you learn that Sunday’s Legends Race was just 220m long, we’ll leave it to your imagination!
Oxford, Cambridge and Split raced head to head on Sunday over the 220m course in the race of Legends and once again Oxford came out on top and we’re sure took great delight in filling the podium with their whole team.
We look forward to more great racing action from the two clubs during the rest of the season, why not subscribe to our newsletter to be kept up to date.
