About Gigi:
What is your reason for your course choice?
I love ethics, and this course in particular covers ethical topics that really interest me
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
I started sculling in the school holidays at Guildford Rowing Club, mainly because my dad wanted to pick up the sport again, so I tagged along. I’ve always liked sports, so I was keen to try a new one (though, he tried to convince me to be a cox for his crew instead of a rower!) Then when I joined Cambridge, I learnt to sweep at Queens College Boat Club, and had the absolute best time competing for college in bumps.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
I learnt to scull at Guildford Rowing Club, taught by the late John Noble, who was so lovely. Then at QCBC I spent my first year in W2, coached by various student/alumni coaches, but primarily by the legendary Joe Penny.
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
My grandpa’s love of sport has always inspired me. From tennis and athletics to paragliding and mountain climbing, there’s nothing he can’t do!
What sport did you prioritise growing up?
Whatever we were playing in school, which was any number of ball sports – I was always a solid member of the B team
What is your favourite non-academic book?
Guns, germs, and steel
What is your dream job? Or what do you aspire to do once you complete your studies?
I like quant research
