About Harry:
What course are you studying and what level?
PhD in Clinical Biochemistry/Bioinformatics
Why did you chose that course?
I chose this field of study because I wanted to apply computer science, statistics, and genomics to real-world problems. In collaboration with industry and academia, we focus on deciphering the deregulation of cell signalling in metabolic disease, identifying druggable targets and biomarkers, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
I started rowing in 22 at St Edmund’s College. I took up the sport because I was told everyone in Cambridge rows.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
My first coach was Fania Chris at St Edmund’s.
What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?
Michael Phelps at Beijing 2008.
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
The camaraderie of you and all your teammates training for one goal is unbelievably fun. Plus, you get ridiculously fit!
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
Pole vault
What is your favourite non-academic book?
The Emperor of All Maladies.
