About Jessica:

What course are you studying and what level?

PhD in Psychology

Why did you chose that course?

I’m fascinated by how much and how fast children develop and am intrigued to understand better how we all develop so differently

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

I learned to row at St. Catharine’s College in Cambridge 2 years ago when I started my PhD. I really love to be out on the water and that if you work together as a team you make the boat go faster!

What was your first rowing club and coach?

St. Catharine’s College Cambridge and Carmen Failla

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

The Dutch gymnast Epke Zonderland

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

After quitting gymnastics when I was 18, I didn’t find a sport that I enjoyed more than doing non-sports things, and I’m really happy to have found a sport that has amazing people that I can learn a lot from as well as making me look forward to the next training.

If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?

I really enjoy cycling!

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Educated from Tara Westover
