About Rozzie:

What is your reason for your course choice?

I absolutely love the blend of logic and art which is required to understand new languages, and the way that it makes you question your native languages. It is also my dream to live in Marseille.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

In sixth form at Lancaster, I began learning to scull in doubles as the first cohort of female rowers in the school, but it wasn’t until I came to Somerville in 2023 that I started taking the sport seriously, learning to love the process of pushing myself to my physical and mental limits, as well as the incredible community which came with that. Rowing has taught me so much about how much we are capable of when we believe in ourselves, and about how much more our bodies are worth than what we look like.

What was your first rowing club and coach?

David Yates at LRGS

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

One of my earliest memories of watching a sporting event was going to see my mum complete the Great North Swim. She is quite possibly the most driven and determined person I know, and has always inspired me to push myself in all aspects of life, and has supported me throughout my rowing journey, even when she thinks I’m insane.

What sport did you prioritise growing up?

Triathlon (especially outdoor swimming)

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Confessions of a Shopaholic – Sophie Kinsella – a series of books I’ve read since I was little, very light and non serious comedy but very enjoyable!

What is your dream job? Or what do you aspire to do once you complete your studies?
