About Sarah :

What is your reason for your course choice?

We live in a crucial time of environmental change, I find research into ways we might live through this change both important and interesting.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

I started rowing at my college when I came to Cambridge, I knew the university was famous for the sport so I wanted to give it a go and then got hooked. I had no prior experience at all with rowing, I had never even seen a rowing boat, but over the last couple of years have found an absolute love for it. I particularly like that it is an extremely collaborative team sport, everyone must work with dedication towards the same goal, holding each other accountable and sharing together in success. I have found it so inspiring to work day in and day out with such determined and commitment women where the boat truly becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

What was your first rowing club and coach?

JCBC (Jesus College Boat Club) – coach Martyn Rooney

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

I remember watching the Olympic gymnastics with my mum as a young child and being amazed by the power and agility the athletes showed – it inspired me to see just what the human body is capable of!

What sport did you prioritise growing up?

As a young child I loved all kids of dance but soon got into water sports of every kind, a trend that seems to have stuck!

What is your favourite non-academic book?

The Sparrow – Mary Doria Russell

What is your dream job? Or what do you aspire to do once you complete your studies?
