About Abbie :

What is your reason for your course choice?

My course allows you to cover a range of subjects from several disciplines, whilst keeping open the opportunity to specialise in second and third year, as I have done with Sociology which is my primary interest.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

I learnt to row at my college boat club, Hughes Hall Boat Club, a couple of years ago. I am averse to sports which require standing up (running!), hence the appeal of rowing. There is also something incredibly satisfying about embracing, and coming out the other side of, the discomfort of a hard erg or difficult water session.

What was your first rowing club and coach?

Hughes Hall Boat Club. My first coach was Roy Cooper who is the lovelist man and well known on the River Cam.

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

Beth Tweddle. As a young gymnast, I was in awe of her.

What sport did you prioritise growing up?

Gymnastics

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Anything by Tolstoy – I love his articulation of life’s questions

What is your dream job? Or what do you aspire to do once you complete your studies?

I’d like to work in the medical tech industry
