About Alexia:

What course are you studying and what level?

MSc Economics for Development

Why did you chose that course?

I’m interested in the application of economics to help the most vulnerable people in the world. Economics for development offers the tools to conduct research with tangible results informing government and aid policies.

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

Magdalen college boat club, in my first year of undergrad. Joined the many incoming freshers in trying the ‘quintessential Oxford sport’

What was your first rowing club and coach?

Magdalen College Boat Club

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

Serena Williams!! (the tennis goat!)

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

Being surrounded by such driven and inspirational people who will be life-long friends (even if that means waking up early for long runs whilst on holiday together….)

If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?

As a former tennis player, probably tennis (although I do think some hand eye coordination has been lost while rowing)

What is your favourite non-academic book?

When Breath Becomes Air (Paul Kalanithi)
