Boat Race History
- 2023 – Cambridge Women’s Reserve Boat
About Kate:
Why did you choose History?
I love the freedom to explore different periods of history, challenging myself to respond to different kinds of sources and create convincing arguments – this year I’m doing a dissertation on Australian civil rights and also studying the near east in the age of Muhammad!
Why did you first try rowing?
It was very popular at my school, so my friends and I all tried it – it became very clear very quickly that I wasn’t cut out for the erg, and I started coxing instead!
Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?
Gill Harfield at Pembroke School in Adelaide, Australia
Where else have you rowed?
I coxed at my local clubs, Torrens Rowing Club and Adelaide Rowing Club, as well as spending a year coxing for my college, Sidney Sussex – had a chance to experience the carnage of bumps!
What are your proudest rowing achievements?
Winning the Blondie race in 2023, and being selected to cox my state U21 women’s 8 in 2021.
Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?
Blondie 2023, of course – recovering from a severe blade clash to a 3 length victory is something I won’t ever forget.
What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?
Everything – it would be the outcome of months of hard work and sacrifices, and there is no better feeling than having that pay off.
