About Oliver :

What course are you studying and what level?

BA History

Why did you chose that course?

Love the subject, the ability to critique and analyse the past, and the breadth and variety that history offers. Two people studying history can be studying almost completely different degrees!

When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?

King’s College Boat Club, Michaelmas 2022. I went to the taster day and was immediately hooked by the sport; I then tried coxing for the first time and knew that I loved it! Suits my talkative nature and I loved the feeling of being in a boat!

What was your first rowing club and coach?

King’s College Boat Club, William Miller

What or who was the earliest sporting inspiration you remember as a child?

I am a massive Arsenal FC fan, so being at Wembley to witness Arsenal lift the 2014 FA Cup in dramatic circumstances against Hull City will forever live fondly in my memory.

How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?

Massive impact on me – the camaraderie is unparalleled, and I love the feeling of being part of a team which is all intensely driven towards one goal.
It also helps structure my day-to-day life, which I value as a person who likes to remain organised in what they do.

If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?

Bobsledding – inspired by the legendary film Cool Runnings!

What is your favourite non-academic book?

Harry Potter – haven’t read all the books, but absolutely love the series. I have watched all the films many times, and could watch them all another 100 times. They’ll never get old for me!
