About Sarah:
What course are you studying and what level?
First year of MPhil+DPhil in Economics
Why did you chose that course?
I am interested in applied microeconomic research, especially in health policy. The combined programme is great as it teaches the theoretical models of analysis before providing the opportunity for research.
When, where and why did you start rowing? And what do you love about the sport?
I started rowing during school because I enjoyed playing sport and thought it would be fun to try a new one. My favourite part about rowing is the team. It’s a privilege to train alongside such dedicated and talented women every day.
What was your first rowing club and coach?
My first rowing club was Rob Roy Boat Club, where I was coached by Jo Burch.
How has rowing and being part of the Boat Race squad impacted your life?
It is a special programme to be a part of. You build strong friendships and have the chance to be part of an event with a long history. As a student athlete, you also learn the importance of effective time management!
If you weren’t a rower, what sport do you think you’d excel at?
After watching the Olympics coverage, I’d love to try canoe slalom.
What is your favourite non-academic book?
The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
